DO YOU EVER FEEL LIKE THE WORLD IS JUST TOO MUCH?

We live in a world that wants you to shut down and show up. A world that doesn’t value authenticity. A world that doesn’t celebrate your feelings, intuition, inner knowing, or natural rhythms. A world where the language around ancestors, healing, rituals, the sacred, and all things mystical and magic has been all but erased.

But just because these topics are taboo doesn’t mean they’re not there. We feel them. We miss them. We long for them. And we suffer because we’re not able to talk about these essential, very real parts of ourselves.

It’s what happens when you share something you’ve observed in your own body with your doctor and are told “That’s impossible!”
When you know something with absolute certainty—whether from your inner voice, a powerful dream, or some other way—only to get laughed at because “it couldn’t be proven by science.”

When you talk about your intuition and are roundly shut down.

Hi, I’m Dr. Maya. I’m a conventionally-trained pediatric neurologist. I’m also an herbalist, and author of The Dirt Cure. I’m weird, and I’M PROUD OF IT.

I’m here to tell you that you don’t need to suffer as you’ve been suffering. I want to help you feel connected to yourself and to the world around you. I want to show you how Mother Earth can be a source of joyful, mutual healing.

I grew up very much at home in nature. In a time with no cell phones, I explored in nature for hours, barefoot, dirt under my fingernails, playing by a creek in the forest, and climbing rocks and trees like a little goat. I grew a garden and talked to the plants as I harvested them.

I felt the grief of trees when they were cut. I loved animals, especially wild birds.

And I built altars—beautiful sacred spaces with bits of beautiful nature—though no one ever showed me how and I couldn’t have said what they were. In short, I was a little empath.

My current work started when my then 7-year-old son, Erez, had a seizure. We had just moved home after a prolonged mold remediation. At the time, I was practicing integrative neurology: successfully combining conventional neurology with food, nutrition, herbal medicine and mind-body techniques. I was treating children with seizures and other disorders from all over the world. And I was speaking and teaching internationally on how to reverse chronic illness.

But in the moment of my son’s crisis, I knew that focusing on his physical body wasn’t the answer. It was something that seemed far more intangible. It was his energy body that needed help. It was his spirit. It was his soul.

I realized that this was exactly what had been missing all along in my training. So I started a journey to learn. And I’ve traveled all over the world and learned from plants, teachers, elders, and indigenous communities from Ecuador and Mexico to Australia and Africa.

And while I still (and probably forever will) love to geek out over the brain and mitochondria and science, I am also in full service to our Mother Earth, to spirit and to the sacred. My specialty is showing sensitive, empathic people how to heal, how to care for themselves and how to recognize and hone their gifts.

YOUR STRANGENESS IS SACRED

In the past, sensitive, empathic people—like me and maybe you—were called “weird ones.” And we quickly learned to pretend to be like everyone else to avoid being marginalized. But there’s something I want you to know. YOUR “STRANGENESS” IS SACRED. It is your connection to your heart wisdom, to your ancestors, and to the Earth. And right now, you live in a world that’s forgotten the language of the sacred.

To be clear: YOU’RE NOT THE PROBLEM. The world you live in is.

I want to help you learn to embrace yourself—ALL OF YOU—your strangeness especially. Even if it feels uncertain. Even if it feels scary. Because YOUR STRANGENESS IS WHERE YOUR UNIQUE MEDICINE RESIDES.

PRETENDING CAN MAKE YOU SICK

It can be exhausting to keep up with all the ways you’re supposed to show up in the world. It takes a lot of energy to erase your uniqueness and fit in. To stuff your feelings. To compartmentalize your suffering. To bear witness to the pain of others with no way to direct your compassion.

And when you shut down essential parts of yourself, you can feel disconnected. You can feel “all over the place,” “heavy,” or lonely (even if you have a lot of friends). You may also experience very real emotional or physical symptoms: grief, depression, anxiety, insomnia, chronic pain, and physical conditions including autoimmunity, neurological disorders, and cancer.

Yes, your spiritual and emotional pain can manifest as serious physical conditions.

LET’S GET YOU TO A PLACE WHERE YOUR ENERGY AND POWER FEEL LIMITLESS.

When you are connected to yourself, your community, and the land you stand on, you can move mountains. And it won’t be depleting. It will be energizing. You’ll have courage. And you’ll have a whole community that has your back.

Empaths, wise women, sensitive ones—now is the time to represent. It’s time to honor your intuition. To bring back the sacred. And to heal.

Bring your compassion, your awareness, your weirdness, your differentness. No more stigma. Instead:
OWN IT. ACKNOWLEDGE IT. BE PROUD OF IT. DELIGHT IN IT.

Together, we can stand shoulder to shoulder with all sacred beings—human, non-human and invisible. It’s time to lead by example. I want you by my side. Are you ready to join me?
